Famed track mentor Max Goldsmith assumes duties next fail as head football coach of the Andrews Mustangs.Goldsmith succeeds Glenn Frazier who was nam?d full-time athletic director last week. Goldsmith will retain his duties as varsitv track coach.igThe new coach was selected at a special meeting of th3 board of trustees Monday. Goldsmith was hired on an unanamious voteafter he was recommended by Frazier.Also eighth grade coach Moody Conner was elevated to B-teamfootball and assistant trackcoach. Conner replaces Forest Scott who was recently namedassistant high school principal.Goldsmith’s salary was set at $9,000 and Conner was contracted at $7,500. Conner will also serve as high school English instructor.Varsity football assistants Bill Shipman and Edd Farmer will rein ann on the staff. Goldsmith reported. Shipman has served as defensive line coach for the past four seasons. Farmer has coached defensive secondary for twofacilities, the budget, the cooperation of the administration and loyalty of the fans.Goldsmith came to Andrews in 1947 as a beginning teacher after receiving his degree from North Texas State University.He began here as coach of alljunior high school athletic teams. In 1951. he was named varsity track and B-team football coach.Goldsmith joined fh_* varsity coaching staff in 1959 when he was moved up from the B-team in mid-season Since that time, hehas served as offensive linecoachGoldsmith is most not *d for producing five state champion ship track reams. The Flying Mustangs took the state crown in 1954, 1958, 1959, I960 and 1961.Goldsmith’s tracksters won district 11 straight times, from 1951-61.
