Launch balloon for rays studyPIERRE, S.D. (AP) -Weather conditions finally cooperated as National Scientific Balloon Facility officials launched a study of cosmic rays from Pierre.“Everything is going fine,” according to Bob Kubara, project director, who noted the balloon launch was at 8:39, a.m. today. The launch followed several cancellations last week as wind and weather conditions prohibited the flight.“Now we watch and wait,” Kubara said.Instruments attached to the balloon, which will reach 126,000 feet, will study data and transmit it back to National Aeronautics and Space Administration recording equipment on the ground at Pierre.
