Regent Sveinn Bjornsson Elected Leader of Iceland

Sveinn Bjornsson, former Icelandic Minister to Copenhagen, was elected Regent by the Althing at 1 30 p m yesterday receiving 37 of 44 votes. In a broadcast address he urged strengthening ties with Denmark and other democracies and preserving Icelandic democracy as postwar cooperation continues. He is 60, studied law at Copenhagen, and had served in the Althing since 1920.
