INNSBRUCK, Austria’ (NANA) —The riddle of Martin Bormann, ,Hitler’s adjutant, has been revived by: his son, Martin Jr. Bormann last was seen fleeing in a German tank from Hitler's burning bunker in the Berlin Reichschancellery. Alone of the Nazi bigwigs, his fate remains a mystery. The son, who is studying for the priesthood in a Jesuit monastery near Innsbruck, has published a cryptic statement that “I am not certain my father is dead,” ‘Display Picture Martin dr., 28, until now, ap parently had assumed his father to be dead. He had given no indica tion to the contrary, and he seem ed anxious to dissociate himself from his father’s name. Now young Bormann keeps his father’s portrait, in Nazi uniform, on his writing desk. Martin Jr. explains: “I have no witnesses that my fa ther is still alive, but I also have no evidence that he is dead.” The son was asked if he didn't believe Bormann, if still alive, wouldn’t try to contact his fam ily. Martin Jr. replied: “I don’t believe he would. The risk would be too great.” Bormann was Hitler's constant companion, personally closer to the Fuehrer than any other Naz higher-up. Most Hitler experts claim Bormann was the evil in fluence behind much of the Fueh rer's depravity. No Hormann Claims The Russians cooperated in es tablishing Hitler's death in the bunker. But they made no claims to having killed Bormann, who at one time or another since the war has been reported living in Rus sia, Argentina, Africa and “‘on a South Sea island.” Much of the Bormann mystery stems from the fact that the West ern Allies and Russians combed Germany after the war for Hitler higher-ups. Dossiers were com piled ‘on the fate of every major Hitlerite, dead or alive. ‘In these master files, only Bor mann’s dossier is bare. He was sentenced to death by the Nurem berg war crimes tribunal — in ab sentia. Bormann’s wife died in 1946. The Bormanns had three sons and three daughters.
