An impending war by a well organized and strongly financed “‘army of Witches” is revealed in a UPI dispatch from Zionsville, Ind. Only 50 miles from Greensburg! A group of that community’s residents is already making energetic preparations to oppose the invaders. They are stock-piling foods and guns. I shudder to think that the ghost of the infamous Witch of Endor may be directing this attack against the inflation-ridden peoples of this nation. Like the rest of you I have long deluded myself with the idea that today’s witch business was wholly in the hands of the Hollywood sirens and the Not so. The Rev. H. Eugene Riker, pastor of the fundamentalist First Baptist Church in Zionsville, has told his congregation of the impending danger and urged immediate preparation. Some young to have ridiculed the revelation, but the anti-witch campaign goes on with vigor, lawns and back yards are being plowed up for vegetable crops. The pastor’s warning has been augmented by a young California evangelist, John Todd, as he moves on to olden times, and they are less dangerous now. Be prepared to defend your homes.” It presents a hard question: The Bible warns, “Thou shalt not kill.”” Some believe that crippling might be effective. Anyway, say the preachers, they have until 1980 to plan. When the invaders hear what happened in early American history to women charged with witchcraft they may remount their broom sticks and go away. In the meantime the campaign is collec ting a lot of money.
