Little filing action f or local electionsElections for North Star Borough and Fairbanks city councilman will be held Oct. 8, but there is little action on the filing front.With the deadline for filing for seats as mayor and assemblymen for the Fairbanks North Star Borough, John Carlson, the present incumbent mayor, will run against Bob Parsons who is presently both a borough assembly member and Fairbanks city councilman.Betty Cook of North Pole, who is presently a delegate from North Pole to the assembly has filed for the three-year term now held by .Laura Bergt.^ Harry Reimer has filed for Seat C. ■ the three-year term now held by Turn Koure metis.John “Jack Townshend isrunning for the three-year seat held by Tom Miklautseh who is on the assembly by virtue of being a city council representative. That is Seat H.No one has filed for the borough seat held by Joe Marshall who la also on the assembly due to being on the oily council.Seat J, is also being vacated with one year more to go by Ken Carson who also represents the council on Hie assembly.For the school board Nancy Brown, the incumbent will run for her Seat C against Edward A. Hoch.School board Seat D. for three years currently held by Chuck Rees will be contested by JimMovius.Ann Speilberg, the borough clerk said filings must be made no later than 5 p.m. Monday in her office at G10 Second Ave.On the city side only Timothy E. Hanneman has filed for council seat D.Also up is the mayor's term for two years and three-year terms for Council Seats C and D.One Public Utility Board member will also be elected to the 5-vear term now held by MortSchlerhorn.The filing deadline for this election is 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at the city hall, according to Kathleen I. Day, city clerk.Chuck Rees, who has been surrounded with controversy during Ihe early part of his term and was forced to withstand a recall election in the summer of 1972 said i think the job has been done, The situation in the school district three years ago which prompted me to run is no lunger present. 1 feel the administration of,; Chuck Smith la quite capable and the district has completely changed its direction and we are better for it.
