(ummiulonrr of Patenti. It is now generally believed that the Hon. Klisha Foote will be retained as Commissioner of Patents, if he desires to remain. He has proved a most effi cient offleer, but is secretly attacked by the host of plunderers who infested the Patent Office under a former administration, and who are again anxious to secure their old position, for jhe purpose of preying upon its interests, and Uius advancing their own selfish ends. Mr. Foote has, so far. declined to make any effort to retain the office, or to encourage his friends to exertion on his behalf, being satisfied that the proper fulfillment of the duties of the office imposes upon Aim a vast deal c labor and responsibility. While he is willing to remain, he is also aware that his continuance in th position is a great pecuniary sacrifice, as it deprives him of the large Income which he would receive from Lis private practice, as one of the leading patent lawyers of the country. j
