An urgent appealBecome a friend of 3D projectsPLEASE HELP us to keep 3D Projects open for our children with disabilities in the parishes of St. Catherine, Manchester, St.Thomas, St. Mary and Portland.3D Projects - ‘Dedicated to the Development of Persons with Disabilities’, is a registered not fOF profit non-governmental organisation (NGO) which provides quality services to our children with disabilities from birth to adulthoodsince 1985.This is done through a programme of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), which consists of early detection, medical and psychological clinics followed by home visiting, counselling, parent training and rehabilitation for the child/adult with a disability. These services are carried out by a team of 60 dedicated, well-trained women many of whom are mothers of children with disabilities. They are supported by a team of professionals who also administer the programme. For the past five years, 3D has been struggling to continue its services, as the overseas donors have come to the end of their funding after 16 years or reduced funding -and the government has beenunable to give financial support equivalent to that of the donors. The organisation has survived by its fund-raising efforts and by restructuring the working hours of die staff. If we cut back any further then we might as well close down the organisation. This would be a pity as 3D Projects has had many successes, and is one of the leading organisations on disability issues in the region.Hie closure of 3D Projects would be a great loss to about 2,000 children, adolescent/adults and their families in the five parishes aforementioned, and not to mention our staff, most of whom are mothers of persons with a disability. It would also be a greatloss not only to students locallyand overseas, but to the disability sector and the nation as a whole, which also benefits from that body of knowledge and expertise which has been developed by the work of the 3D Projects. We therefore ask for your immediate support in cash or kind to continue our services to the “differently able” people in our communities, and the parents and staff of 3D Projects, by sponsoring achild, supporting monthly salaries, providing medication such as antibiotics and anticonvulsants, doctors’ fees for our clinics, computers, printers, scanners for our resource and documentation centres, assist with a part-time accountant or help with our utility bills. In return you can claim tax relieffor your contribution. We can giveyou publicity here and overseas, and provide you with our publications and updates as to our activities.Donations can be made to 3D Projects’ account at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Adelaide Street, Spanish Town, account No. 26845.For further information please contact us at:14 Monk Street, Spanish Town, St CatherineTel: 984-2840/943-8528.
