Friday evening at 7:45 in Avery Hall the Vassar Town Hall will sponsor a forum on the subject of Palestine. Khalil Torah, Exec utive Director of the Institute of Arab-American Affairs will pre sent the Arab point of view and Maurice Samuel of the Jewish Agency for Palestine will give the Zionist side. J. Howard Howson, Professor in the Department of Religion, will moderate the dis cussion. Both of the speakers are noted in their fields Arab Representative Khalil Torah was born ten miles north of Jerusalem, and after re ceiving his education in Palestine and Lebanon, he graduated from Clark University, Worcester, Mass. and received his two graduate de grees of A.M. and Ph.D. from Co lumbia University. Dr. Torah was principal of the Government Arab College in Jerusalem and later in charge of Friends educational work in Ramallah. Among his books are History of Palestine, Geography of Palestine and Pal estine: A Decade of Development. Dr. Torah has lectured widely in this country, appearing on the Open Forum in Boston and the Foreign Policy Association in Philadelphia, Syracuse, Worcester and Providence. He is now Exec utive Director of the Institute of Arab American Affairs in New York. The purpose of this Insti tute is to cultivate friendly rela tions between the United States and the Arab World. Zionist Maurice Samuel has for the last 35 years been interpreter of Jew ish values through books and lec tures. His best known works are: You Gentiles, a study of the spe cific character of Jewish civiliza tion; The Great Hatred, a basic expose of the pathological char acter of anti-Semitism; and oth ers. Apart from his literary work, Mr. Samuel has studied Jewish life at first hand during his travels in Europe, Palestine and Africa. Much of the material of his lec tures is drawn from his personal observation in the four continents. This is the second Town Hall program of the year. The first, held just before the November elections, was on the campaign and was given by Miss DeLancey’s class in political parties. The next program will be given on Febru ary 25 by SLA and Town Hall and the Labor Problems class on the subject of the issues involved in the solution of labor disputes. the Town Hall Committee is com posed of two students, Alice Co lonna ‘47 and Christine Vassar ‘47, and two faculty members, Miss Evalyn Clarke, Professor of His tory and Miss Margaret Myers, Professor of Economics, who plan programs of community interest.
