Mr. Rufus Silas Bowden, a life long resident of Burnet County was suddenly called by death at his ranch home in Bur net, Wednesday, September 22nd, 1954. Funeral services for deceased were held Friday morning, Sep tember 24th at 10:00 o’clock in the Church of Christ with Rev. J. D. Moss in charge assisted by M. T. Cross. Burial was in the Burnet Cemetery under the di rection of the Clements Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Clyde Keele, Clint Keele, Milt Cehand, FE. E. Greathouse, Drue Scoggins, Lay mond Parks, Walter Ruble and Horace Parker. Honorary pallbearers were: Dotson Corder, Earl Sawyer, Charlie Withers, Ed Baker, Wal ter Shilling, Lewis Warner, M. A. Warner, George Webb, John Sherrard, Ed Purcell, Marion Tomlinson and Walter Wallace. Mr. Bowden was born in Bur net County, July 20, 1884, and spent his entire life in his native county. He had been engaged in the farming and ranching ,busi ness all of his life, and held ex tensive farming, ranching and business property at the time of his death. Deceased was very ac tive in both church and civic af fairs, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Bowden, Burnet; two daughters, Mrs. Waddell North ington and Mrs. Merle Strahan, both of Burnet, a son, M. G. Bow den of Austin, a step-mother, Mrs. R. Bowden, Lampasas; three sisters, Mrs. W. E. Buckman, Kennedy; Mrs. W. W. Miller, Dal las; Mrs. Alice Poindexter, Lub bock; two brothers, Ward Bow den, Lampasas; Dr. Fred G. Bowden, of Denver, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Sandra and Sharon Strahan, Burnet.
