* * * * * * * *I MIT A TION HITLER Following a discourse on the problems SOUNDS OFF of Labor, I received a letter from thechairman of the “Protestant WarVeterans of the United States,” a certain Edward James Smythe, as follows: “Now until we accept National Fascism with Christian Economic and Christian Political philosophy, our standard bearer will we get anywhere (sic)! Congress has outlived its usefulness, it should be recessed until we have complete recovery.“Over 70 per cent of them have no interest in the welfare of thecountry but are under control and domination of the political parasites that own them. National Fascism will and must come here and can be handled under our system of government without destroying the Constitution.“Congress can be called into session when important matters are to be discussed, but not otherwise; the members will only be paid for the time they are employed by the people, cutting out their graft and plunder and pork barrel system of government.“Now is the time for the Anti-Defamation Committee of the B’nai B’rith, the Congress and the Committee, to keep an eye upon this particular individual and the organization for which he speaks. The disbanding of the democratically elected Congress is only another imitation of the adjournment of the Reichstag under Hitler, and the use of “National Fascism” is only another name for Naziism or Mussolini’s Fascism.Perhaps it is a mistake to take any cognizance of such reckless and stupid utterances; publicity is exactly what the chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Protestant War Veterans is seeking. But, at the same time, it is of interest to the reading public to know that such preachers of Naziism’s methods are abroad and active in the land.
