Sixty-seven’ years ago the ‘great Blondin walked'a rope stretched be tween the falls and the whirlpool rapids, across the gorge at Niagara, carrying a balancing pole 40 feet long and weighing 45 pounds. Later on he trundled a barrow across, and later on a man, H. Colcord, his manager. In 1860 Blondin walked across on stilts, this performance being wit nessed by the prince of Wales, aft erward King Edward VII.
