PEEPS AT PUBLICATIONS. toll-o- sonA SILVER ANNIVERSARY.We,MOTORIST AND WHEELMAN. P™graiand of 1 the YenMFcomThe September issue of tlio Motor-i-t and Wheelman marks its silver iiuii’’ ersory, the literary infant whi-h saw the light in 1896 being*! christened the tV.A. Wheelman.To quote the editorial in the Polt; present excellent number, in spite of men the fact that cycling occupied a debt very important position in the world of affairs at the time when the Wheelman was first published, tho infant journal required a good deal of nurviii, support, and encouragement before it even commenced to giw promise of growth to a splendid I ot ' mat rity. The initial nursing was rend red by Messrs. R. S. Sampson (the present publisher of the Motorist and Wheelman), .1. Cunning, and W. X. J. McNamara. It was not long before the two latter gentlemen retired from the nursery, and left the maternal duties entirely in the hands of Mr. .Sampson. For some time the fate of tin* journal hung in the balance. and it was due to the unremitting enthusiasm, and kindly encouragement of its supporters, that these early troubles were surmounted. IN gratitude is particularly due to Mr. P. W. Armstrong (Armstrong's Cycle and Motor Agency), and the late Hon. Frank Wilson. O.M.G.. sonic time Premier of the State, and. at the time of the .lounml’s struggling infancy, Presi-dem *»f the League of Wheelman, and member for Canning. The first issue of the W.A. Wheelman was published on the evening of a meeting of the Perth Cycle Club and the journal walt; uuaniraouslv elected the official organ of that Club, and. later on the formation of the League of Western Australian Wheelmen, that body extended its official patronage to the journal.About 1900. the decadence of cycling was such that the Wheelman I half was temporarily suspended: but thej givej Beverley to Perth road race caused I tireri sufficient revival of interest to warrant the publication of a special annual issue. The Motorist and Wheelman is the official organ of several cycling clubs, and iu-t recently a newly-formed body at Vortham conferred upon this journal the honour of appointment in this capacity. The journal grate-full; acknowledges the compliment and looks upon it in the light of a birthday greeting.Wo wish our wheeling con tom -por: tv “man\ happy returns of similar birthday greetings. For only 6/6 n year it gives marvellous value, and it is little wonder that it includes every motorist and cyclist of note in the State among its friends and supporters.theGazesuchpublno rlivein tlArbiBon i takePUSUIfoulnotCto 1 for be i»rOf t spa peri be lt;11 and now gett 1isinei:iualt;
