JACKSONMONUMENTi ■UNVEILED AT CHARLESTONTUESDAY WITH IMPOSING CEREMONIESParticipated in B)r Confederate Camps, State Troops, Cadets, Citizens, and State Officials,'Hie unveiling of the monument to Stonewall Jackson at Charleston Tuesday was an event of more than ordinary- importance from more than one standpoint,Not onl.y was this the lirst monument to be erected on the stale capitol grounds, but it is a peculiar fact that a monument commemorating the memory of a confederate leader should be the first t) be erected on the lawn of the capitol of the only state actually created us the.direct result of the war in which Jackson won his fame, ami in opposition to the cause which he espoused. No moreconvincing testimony could be. asked of the passing of the feeling engendered by'that struggle and the reuniting of those who participated in it.The ceremonies opened with a parade, headed by the Stonewall Brigade Band, of Staunton, Va., which still embraces in its mcm-bershi p some of those who followed through the1' war the fortunes' of the leader whose memory they had met on this occasion to honor, the cadets from the V. Meeks wore among those who voted in the primary, despite the fact that the former has been dead eightyears and the latter was in Boston«on election day.Shetland PoniesMessrs. Crawford Bros.-,-of this county, last week sold seventy-nine head of purebred Shetland ponies to Dr. S. B. Elliott, of Markham, Fauquier county, Va. These.pon-ine were comprised in their herdof purebred Shctlaiids near Organ Cave which have excited the admiration of everybody who has.seen the pretty animals. The Messrs.
