No more convincing testimony could be asked of the passing of the feeling engendered by'that struggle arid the reuniting of those who participated in it.The ceremonies opened with a parade, headed by the Stonewall Brigade Band, of Staunton, Va,, which still embraces in its membership some of those who followed through the’ war the fortunes of the leader whose memory they had met on this occasion to honor, the cadets from the V. M. I., where • - *Jackson was an honored instructor until the outbreak of the war in which his life was sacrificed, a detachment of the national guards, headed by the Second Regiment Isanti, confederate veterans, citizens and d istinguished guests, present and former state officials.At the close of the. parade, the ceremoniesconnected witH the unveiling were opened with the invocation by Ht. Rev. G. W, Peter-kin, of Parkersburg, which was followed by a patriotic song by Mrs. J. G. Edwards. * The presentation speech made by Gen. Green and the address of acceptance by Hon. .John A. Preston, of Greenbrier county. Major General liobert White followed Mr. Preston with an historical and eulogistic address which was the feature of the day's exercises. He was followed by Sir Moses Ezekiel, the sculptor to whose skill the creation of the monument is due, and the formal exercises were con--eluded with an address-by-GGn^-Bn-ri il.
