MANY MURDERS COMMITTEDWithin the Past I en Days Overthe State.Special to the Daily Progress.Jackson. .Sept. 30.—The county authorities in Mississippi have been kept quite busy with murder cases during the past ten days, and severalatrocious crimes are reported in the country press from interior counties which escaped chronicle in the press dispatches.James Burns shot and killed a fel-low-laborer on the Pearl and Leaf Itivers railroad, near Williamsburg, firing six shots into Ids bodv and afterward making bis escape. Word lias just been received of his capture at Gulfport.In Lee county near Guntown a ne-gross named Bryson was killed bv tier former husband who made an attack upon the woman’s newlv adopted lover and wound up by killing the woman. He claims, however, that .Pink Dowd, the lover, fired the fatal shot.At Wallace’s store, in Tate county. Grant Rice was shot and killed Saturday afternoon by Larkin Johnson. The latter claims that the killing was in self-defence, and that Rice was drawing his pistol when he drew his own weapon and fired.
