Consequently, when a prominent Democrat, of Mileaburg, informed uh the oilier day that the story ol Mr. Mai.o.nk, (the Radical candidate (or Commis-, sioner,) heing a petty tyrant in Ins family and abusive to those whom he ought of all others to treat kindly, had no foundation in fact, wc at once re-* solved io do him the justice to any so. Consequently, we now state that we fore informed hy a prominent Democrat of Mileshurg, that Mr, M4mink is not* an abusive man in his family : more than this, we are told that he is positively a kind man toward his wife and chihTren, and that the story of his being otherwise is an exaggeration, springing from some trifling cireiiimUaiKM that did not involve the question of his kindness or unkindnesa^o his family.We make this correction with pleas ore. We do notdelight in saying harsh tilings about our political opponenta’ private characters, and wouhl always be much better satisfied if the canvass could be conducted on political grounds alone. In the heat of political strife, however, ugly stories* teill, sometimes, get a lion t, and, whether wisely or unwisely, they loo often make their op-fiearai.ee in the public papers.Of course, we are opposed to Mr. Mai.ov*? politically. But we are not opposed to him morally, and hence are not desirous to injure Ins private reputation, which, alter all, seems to be good. We, therefore, give him the benefit of this correction, and are hap-py to know, on responsible authority, that he is a better man than our first information led us to believe.Nevertheless, the objection of incoin* petenry yet remains. Hood as his rep iitadon, privately, nay he, lie is not capable ol filling the office of County Commissioner, This, his own party acknowledge, lie is not a man o^ordi nary educa.ion or general in forma tmn, qualities that are all important in so responsible an office as that of County Commissioner. Ity may be honest m h» dealings, kind in his family and all that, but he is not tit tor commissioner.
