Arctic Lanp ExrEdiTion.—It will be gratifying to the public to learn that an Expedition to the shores of the Polar Seas, for the purpose mentioned in the follow ing statement, is at last finally determined upon, to pro ceed without delay, under the command of Capt. Back, by way of Canada, so as early in the spring, to move towards the territories of the Hudson’s Bay Company, who take a warm interest in the success of the enterprise. Government have agreed to contribute 2,0001. towards the expense, upon three conditions, two of which, we are happy to say, are already complied with ; and the third (that of raising 3,000], amongst the friends of Captain Ross) there is little doubt will be accomplished without any appeal to the public; but if it should be found im practicable without, we are persuaded that men who have risked their lives and sacrificed their fortunes (as Captain Ross and his son have done) for the pure sake of science and honour of the nation, would be deemed by their countrymen deserving of some sympathy in the perilous situation in which they are placed.
