So let’s all go to Elgin and help the Hornets win their third game of the season.Last Friday night the Caldwell Hornets defeated Granger 22-0 in a game which saw both teams make many mistakes. Coach Morris Stone said “We are happy they won, but I feel like 1 didn’t do a good job of preparing them for the game which may have caused their lurid showing. We have had good workouts this week, and 1 qafn assure you that the same mistakes that were made last week won’t happen again”, he continued. After grading the films of last Friday night’s game the Hornet offensive unit graded out 71 percent, one percent bet-er than the lowest winning mark of 70 percent. The defensive unit graded out 67 percent which is 7 percent better than the lowest winning mark of 60 percent. Coach Stone praised the defensive unit for doing a fine job of containing the Granger backs, and holding them to a -47 yards rushing. He also commended the offense for movinging the ball pretty well, but he thought they could have moved it better with alittle more cooperation and aggressiveness.I think the Hornet defensive unit has done a good job all season, and will continue to do so. The Hornet offense was slow starting this season, but showed great improvement last week. This was the first time in three years dating back to the 1964 season that the Hornets have made over 2(H) yards rushing, not many times had their rushing yardage exceeded 100 yards. I think the Hornets are a very much improved ball club, and will continue to improve as the season rolls on. 1 believe they got all of their mistakes out of their system last Friday night, and will now settle down and play hard-nosed football. In games played last week involving District 17AA members, Caldwell beat Granger 22-0 Giddings beat Del Valle 12-11, Hearne romped over Teague 42-lb and Cameron edged past Rosebud 15 to 6.
