Services Held ForGlenn JohnsonGlenn E. Johnson*The Marathon and surrounding communities were deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Glenn E. Johnson on Wednesday, Sept. 21st, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital. Glenn died that evening of injuries received in a fall earlier in the day while washing windows at the Masonic Temple.Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 24th, at Grace Lutheran Church at1:30 p.m., with Pastor Carl Beyerhelm officiating. A family prayer service was held at 11:00 a.m.The church was filled to capacity with sorrowing relatives and friends.Mr. and Mrs. Austin Lind-gren, Mrs. Fred Okerberg and Mr. Robert Johnson sang “Rock of Ages” and “Abide With Me”, accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Carl Beyerhelm. The many floral tributes were placed by Mrs. Wendell Skog and Mrs. Boyd Boyan-ovsky.Bearers were Wendell Skog, Donald P. Johnson, Jim McLaughlin, John Chapman, Eldon Erickson and Ray Anderson. Burial was made in the Marathon Cemetery with the Nelson Funeral Home in charge.Pastor Beyerhelm read the following obituary:Glenn Elmer Johnson, the son of Albert and Signe Johnson, was bom January 20, 1920, at Marathon, Iowa. He passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on September 21, 1966, from injuries received in a;fall. He was 46 years and 8 months old.Glenn was baptized and confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church and remained a member until his untimely death. His entire life was spent in the Marathon and Albert City communities.He received his education in the Marathon public schools, graduating with the Class of 1937.On February 1, 1947, he was united in holy matrimony to Irene Belding. This union was blessed with nine children. They farmed in the Albert City community until 1953, when the family moved to Marathon. During this time they were members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Albert City.After moving to Marathon, Glenn was associated with Jones Produce and the Farmers Cooperative Elevator. Almost two years ago they purchased the Laundromat and Recreational Hall in Marathon.Glenn will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Irene; his children, Richard, Karen, Darlene, Marlene, Carol, Marilyn, Ronald and Russell; his mother, Mrs. Signe Johnson of Albert City; two sisters, Alice, Mrs. Einar Carlson of Marathon, and Marget, Mrs. Raymond Olson of Webb; one brother, Albert, of Albert City; two uncles, Mr, Robert Johnson of Marquette, Mich., and Mr. Edwin Johnson of Tacoma, Washington; aunts and uncles in Sweden, several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Glenn was preceded in death by a son, Robert, who died at birth, and his father.Glenn will be so greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted, loving husband and father, Peace be to his memory.
