WILLIAM BAXTER RECEIVES THE WORD OF CONDITION OF HIS DAUGHTER, MRS. PARRISS, CALLED BROTHER FOR HELP William Baxter, of South Harrison styled, received word today from of ficials of the City hospital, at Indi anapalis, that his daughter, Mrs. Carh Parrish, who was slashed with a kolfa yesterday afternoon by Carl Brown, was in a serious condition, but that they have hope for her re covery. All of the persons concerned in the apatr are former residents of Shelby ville. Mr. Parrish is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Parrish, of thin elty, and Brown is a son of Alva Brown, who has been employed as a cook by Frank Gray. Mr. and Mrs. Parrish have made their home in In dianapolis for about two years. Charles Baxter, a brother of Mrs. Parrish, and his wife, also made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Parrish. Charles Baxter, who was in the house at the time his sister was cut by Brown, came here last night, bringing his wife, who had been ill. He returned to Indianapolis today. According to his story of the affair, he was in the upper part of the house with his wife, when he heard his sis ter, Mrs. Parrish, scream, “Help ms Charlie,” she called, “Carl has cut my throat.” Baxter stated that he started down the stairway, and then returned to his room for his razor, which he stated he intended using in driving Brown away. When he reached the room where his sister was, Brown had left the house, and Inter gave himself up to police officers. Mrs. Parrish had been slashed across the throat, which was cut from ear to ear. She had cuts on both sides of her face, and a deep cut had been made on one of her army, near the wrist. She was taken to the hospital for treatment from her home at No. 1106 East New York street. Baxter join ed the police in a search of the vicin ity for Brown. According to Baxter, Brown had been given a room at their home for two weeks, or since he had been out of work.
