MAKES A TRIP UP KOYUKUKSteamer Little Delta Arrives in Chena After Long Voyage.GOES TO BETTLES POSTWater in the Koyukuk River Jg Lower Than Any Season Previous. The steamer Little Delta arrived In Chena yesterday after making a trip to the Koyukuk country, where several outfits for prospectors and trappers were taken. The little steamer went up the river as far as Betties. The water in the Koyukuk is very' low. Old-timers who have spent years in that district say they never saw the water so low at this season of the year. The N. N. Co. had to land its freight several miles below Betties on account of the shallow water.A great deal of prosiecting is being j done on many of the side streams tributary to the Koyukuk this fall, and a number of men will winter in the section adjacent to the Hogatzi and other rivers in the district about 200 miles above the mouth of the Koyukuk^That district as well as many others in the interior of Alaska has suffered to a great extent this tea son from the dry weather, and as a consequence development wprk has been seriously retarded. The claim owners on Nolan creek have great faith in their ground, and the indications of prospects found I there this fall point to a well-defined . paystreak, which is likely to extend much further down the creek. The Little Delta has been chartered ^ by the owners of the steamer Monarch, and is lightering cargo from the i big boat. One trip has been made be-1 tween the bar w'here the Monarch is I stuck and Chena, and about 40 tons I of freight were taken from the steamer. Another trip will be made today t and after the next load Is taken from r the cargo of the Monarch she will probably be light enough to proceed to port herself.
