CRIME. in alleged Negro Warderer in Arkiun stix arrested and Hung by a Mob-- Assassination of the KRebel General Hindman--One of his former soldiers arrested as the perpetrator of the deed -- Hebel Report--Bold Robbery in New York, MeEMPIttsS, Tenn., Sept. 2s.=.4 Helena, Ark., letter announces the hanging by a mob of a notorious negro named Lee, who last winter killed several persons, and yester day made a strong resistance to the Sheriff and posse, who attempted his arrest. Lee was guiptured in the wands, Where he had fled, and was hanged by the unanimous vote of white and blacks. Gen. J.C. Windman, late of the C. I.A., Was assassinated at his resi dence at Selena, Ark., last night. A man named Robbins, a passenger on the Shreve, who, it is thought, committed the deed, was arrested here this afternoon and sent back. Ile is from Springfield, Mo., and served under Hindman. He stoutly denies being the murderer. MEMPIS, Sept. 283—Latter.—An Avalanche special to-night, says: “Gen. Hindman was shot at ten o'clock last night whilst sitting in the midst of his family smoking, his tert hand which held his pipe being carried away by the charge of buck shot, two of which entered his neck, iaflicting a wound, from which he died 8 hours afterwards. his assas sination was procured through polit ical causes.”? New York, Sept. 29.—Another startling robbery took place yester day. A gentleman named Darters was in the third interior room on the second floor of No. 49 Wall street, having at his side on a table a bag containing $135 in specie. A youn man entered the room, reached around Mr. Darters, seized the bag, ran through the outer office crowded with clerks, down stairs, and disap peared in the crowded street with his plunder, Loxvon, Sept. 28.—The following are the very latest reports which have been received from Spain: ‘*The city of Carthagena has been bom barded by the rebel fleet. Gen. Prim has gone to Valencia. The Marquis of Novaliches, commander of the Royal troops in the field, is retreat ing before the advance of Serrano.” PARIS, Sept. 2s.—Evening.— The Pavie says the “situation in Spain is grave. The rebels are gaining strength every day, while the efforts of the Government to withstand the torrent are evidently becoming Weaker. ‘The last ship of the Span ish navy has joined the rebels, and all reports indicate that public opin ion throughout the kingdom favors revolution. That portion of the ar my which still remains faithful to the Queen is disorganized and little dependence can be placed upon it.” ONDON, Sept. 21.—Advices from Spain today confirms all previous reports that the insurgents are marching in force upon the Capitol. Royal troops which were sent against Santander and captured that city, and have since been engaged in pursuing rebels in that quarter, have received orders to return to Madrid for the protection of the capital. The revolution is rapidly progress ing in the interior. The city of Val ladolid pronounced against the Queen and revolt has already extended to most of the Provinces into which Old and New Castile are divided. Paris, Sept. 28.—Pinard, Minister of the Interior, has forbidden the passage of Spaniards through France, on their way to Spain. BERLIN, Sept. 28.—The Emperor Alexander of Russia visited the King of Prussia yesterday, at Potsdam, and to day departed for Warsaw. ‘The Wing of Prussia today left this city for Baden. CASUALTIES. Succession of Disasters--Fire ina Railway Tunnel--It Caves In Bury ing Two Men--Five Others Killed by Construction Train +-A Train of Soldiers Thrown Off the Track in Virginia--Several Killed and a large Number Wounded--Four Men Killed in a Mine. CINCINNATI, September L1. - The “ Pitcher Tunnel” on the Marietta and Cincinnati Railway, which caught fire some days ago and has since been burning, caved in yester day and buried two men. Their re mains have not been recovered. While a construction engine was backing up to the scene of the du ter, it ran over two hand cars near Athens containing 18 men, instantly killing five and seriously injuring three, two of whom are not expected to recover.The men endeavored to jump from the cars, which were de molished. One man had his head entirely severed from his body, and another half his head torn away by a splinter from the ears. RICHMOND, VA., Sept. 25.—A train on the Central Railroad with 200 of the 20th Infantry on board from Washington for Tennessee,ran off the track this afternoon near Gordons ville killing four and wounding a large number. Four cars went off the track. Three companies of same regiment left today for Tennessee. New York, Sept. 20.—James Richards, Richard Sampson, Wim Moore, and James Thomas, while at work in the iron ore mine at Mt. Cnpe, Morris county, Ne do, a few days since. Were intintly killed by over 2 tons of rock falling on them. Rocks had to be drilled and blasted to eet at the bodies. Preparations for Jeff, Davis’ Trial--List of Soldiers killed at Gordonsville, Va. NEW YORK, Sept. 2.—A Washi ngton special today says Jet. Da na will certainly be brought to trial at the next term of the Circuit Court in Richmond, as Attorney-General Evarts is said to be actively pushing mintters. WASHINGTON, Sept 20.The names of the privates in the 28th infantry killed by the railroad accident yester day, near gordonsville, are:Cree, Lewell, of Co. C., and Leopold Mar cus, of Co. L. Subsequently they sere naded son. W. W. O’Brien, who ad dressed them at some length. A great Democratic demonstration is to be held here October 1st. All the railroads have agreed to carry Visitors at half fare. PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 29, —Du ring a political parade last night, as the rear of the “Invincibley’' we» turn ing the corner of 7th and Chestnut atiends, a collision uncared withht this Keystone Democratic Club. Pistols were freely used and several persons injured. Police officer Dehavens was badly beaten and one other man was shot in the hand. Butler made a speech to the Republi can convention today, accepting the nomination for Congress, he re ferred to those who opposed his nomination, classing them with Lee, Beauregard, Forrest and Booth, and charging them with rating $40,000 to defeat his nomination, which he considered equivalent to an election. In response to alleged rumors that Grant does not favor his Butler's election, he said he was too much a friend of Grant pol ‘ty rand such rumors as unauthorized, and offered to decline the nomination if a letter even could be produced from Grant or Colfax desiring the Republicans of the District not to vote for him. The Grand Lodge of it Fellows, which has been in sessional balti more, adjourned on Saturday late to meet next year in San Francisco. It is worthy of mention that the recent letter of Gen. Dix, declaring for Grant, was addressed to Illen. John J. Cisco. Its publication indi cates Where Mr. Cisev stands. GENERAL B. F. STRINGFELLOW, a prominent Conservative leader in Kansas, has deviated for Grant and Colfax. Hon. John M. Krum, a prominent lawyer and Conservative of St. Louis, has done the same. Mr. Levin, Sept. 2u—A dispatch from Grinnell station, on the Kansa Pacific railroad, says Col. Forsythe and all his wounded men have arrived at Fort Wallace. Judge Moore arrived at Wallace yesterday for the remains of Dr. Moore, killed in the recent fight. An immense number of buffaloes on both sides of the railroad extending for 6a miles. Six hundred Indians cross «1 the rail road near the monument y's Urday and the impression is that they are pre paring to attack all the stations along the route, and are driving the buffa loes in advance, which is their usual plon. ‘The eitigems along the entire route are underarms, Capt. A TRAIN of 200 soldiers on the way from Washington to Tennessee, were thrown off the track, near Gor donsville, Va., and four of the sol diers killed and a large number wounded. We shall not be surprised to learn that the disaster was caused by obstructions placed upon the track by rebels. HUROPE. Paris, Sept. 20.---The trantier has the following from Spain: ‘The city of Carthagena joins the revolt. Mar shal Pavia, of the Royal army, at last accounts, was completely sur rounded by the insurgent troops and is probably captured. By this time the insurrection is general through out Spain. It is thought Concha, himself, will soon join the inurgent General Serrano. The rebels have retaken Santander. Cadiz has been declared a free part by the revolu tionists.
