Marilyn BatesMarilyn Bates died Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.Marilyn Elaine was born in Chicago, Illinois, November 20,1927 to Madrona (Gunsten) and Daniel E. Kinney. She grew up in Rock Island, Illinois. After graduation from Rock Island High School in June 1945, she and her father moved to Wisconsin.Marilyn attended Eau Claire Teacher’s College (now UWEC) where she met Earl “Jerry” Bates, Jr. They were married August 24,1948. She later graduated from UWEC in 1973.Marilyn volunteered many years at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a past president of the GFWC Eau Claire Woman’s Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Eastern Star and Genealogy Societies of Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls.She was a “Die Hard” Chicago Cub fan all her life.Marilyn is survived by herdaughter, Mary Elizabeth; granddaughter, Melissa (Chad) Roberts; brother-in-law, Dr. Patrick (Colleen) Bates; sister-in-law, Joanne Bates; and several nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Earl “Jerry”; son, Richard; and brother-in-law, David Bates.A visitation will be held for Marilyn from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. on Monday, September 30,2013 at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire,WI54701. A graveside service will take place at 10:30a.m. on Monday, September 30 at Brook Lawn Cemetery in Cadott.
