Barre-Hill, noted concert singer, has been engaged as opening Civic Arts Club, concert number, it was announced, today. — ‘The event will be Ield at the new Palace Theatre, donat ed for the occasion by Manager W. F. ‘Sonneman, and will be November 15th or 16th, as the singer can ar range. A half-price booking for the attraction has been secured by accept in the fall instead of the spring, as the singer can in November pass through Fayetteville en route to mn other engagement, a fact that made the attraction possible. In addition to the concert, “Ti Bat, feature film will be shown at the Palace without extra charge. ‘The concert will open a season of music to be sponsored by the Civic ‘Arts and which will include Sunday concerts by local and out of town ‘musicians. ‘Music, however,is to be but one of the club’s sponsored activities. ‘The temporary organization, which ex pects to call a meeting of leaders soon for selection of permanent officers is chairmen and submission of a constitution and by-laws, plans to ‘make the elct departmental with var ious groups of workers, among which] will be the following Dramatioa and Little Theatre; Lit erary and Journalistic; City Beautifi cation; Public School; Music; Art; Community Chorus. Outstanding Keavers at each field, together with laymen especially in terested, will be asked to take chars ‘of and develop each department ‘unds raised by the club that year will be used to support con tinued music in the public schools, now threatened by entire lack of fi nancial backing.
