SERGEANT S. M. TEES MEETS HERO'S DEATI-Former Member of Vernon Bank o Montreal Staff Gives His Life for the EmpireFor some weeks contradictory re ports have been in circulation hen regarding the fate of S. M. Tees, for merly a well known and popular mem ber of the local branch of the Bank oJ Montreal. The many friends of the late Mr. Tees in the city and districl will learn with deep regret that these reports are now confirmed.Montreal, Sept. 15.—It was while returning from the front line trenches with his machine gun, with a party of ten soldiers, that Sergt. Stuart Milne Tees, whose name appeared in yesterday’s casualty list, was killed in action. Sergt. Tees and the other men entered a dugout and hand not been inside long when a high explosive shell burst above them and buried them all. Nothing has been seen of the men since, according to an officer of the unit to which Sergt. Tees was attached and who has sent the above details to the father of the dead soldier.Sergt. Tees was reported missing at the beginning of July, but was yesterday officially reported killed in action. Sergt. Tees was brought up in Montreal and was employed with th Bank of Montreal, leaving this city about ten years ago to take up a position in a branch of that bank at Brandon, Man. He was also employed in other blanches in the west, including Vernon, where he enlisted and obtained a commission as lieutenant in the British Columbia Horse, to which unit he was attached for three years, but after waiting for some time for orders to go to the front he secured permission to resign and joined a pioneer battalion as a private in the machine gun section. While at Shorncliffe he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. —Vernon News.
