Circumstantial Evidence Makes It Exceedingly Uncomfortable For a Certain Gentleman. Nothing of an important nature has been discovered in regard to the dis appearance of Miss Katie Hood. De tectives are running down every clue and at last think they have struck the right scent. Circumstantial evidence alone is all they possess, and it is inti mated that the strong arm of the law will soon have a father of a fine fam ily, and well fixed financially, entan gled in itn meshes. The detective who went to Ander son Friday, has returned, having made a few discoveries, enough to justify him in searching houses just out of the city. A very amusing thing happened Friday night. A report became circu lated that the girl was an inmate of a certain house in the South End, which does not bear the most enviable repu tation, and a posse of men went down, surrounded the place and searched it. The developments were ridiculous -o the extreme. White and colored were mixed, and were considerably fright ened, and begged piteously not to be exposed. One of the men, who is supposed to be respectable and has a most estima ble wife, was so badly frightened that he jumped out of the window, and ran right into John Doe. The excuses he offered set the entire crowd into nn uproar.
