done in this direction.— ■ » — ■ - ■B*aik tf ta •cUccaertaa.' +*Died ia Halsey, Sept. 22ud, Wui Mc-Meekin in the eighty-ftfth year of his age.Mr McMeekin was boro in Pennsylvania on the 24th of August, 1799. His early life was spent in Richard county, Ohio, whence he emigrated to Oregon in 1S51. His hrst settlement was on the prairie sear Halsey, hot he soon after removed to Camp Creek, L*ae county, and, returning to Linn county, purchased a farm near Hairisburg on which he lived several years. He also lived for some time in Walla Walla, W. T., where he was employed in teaching and as County School Superintendent He resided in Albany six or eight years and in Halsey the lest year. He preserved his r?tivity and vigor ia old age remarkably, and was about to remove to * new home on the Yequina when the hend of deeth wee leid upon him. On Wednesday of lest week he bed gone on horse beck some ten or twelve miles eest of Helsey en business end wee returning on Thursday, when within half e mile of home, he either dismounted or fell from his horse end wee found lying in the road insensible end paralyzed, end died at 10 o'clock on Saturday.
