Although it coines in raiber a “questionable shape,” being a negro's story, yet we think there is too much reason to belieVe it is substantially true.Creck-dgcney, 16ih September, 1813.The following is aw extract of a communication from the Chiefs at Cowetaa to Colonel Hawkins—“ We have a negro which we will send to you—he says he wds in S*m Mims* Fort at Tensaw, which was b.ken by the Indian* about the-23th August. Tnere were 1000 Indians— they attacked the Fort about 10 o'clock in the morning and took it about 1 o'clock. Siras, a. negro man, cut down the piquets. The Indians lost 40—some of them said SO. After the battle the'Indians encamped about a mile from the Fort until next day 12 o'clock, during which time they were busy hunting Degrees, horses and cattle, and brought off a great many. ’ A number of Indians were woundedi and two died on the road. He thinks there were 60 people in the Fort.— Among the killed M'Girth, Jones. M'Carty, Sam. smith. Dixon, Bailey, his two* orothere, Fletcher, Mims and his family, captain Melton, John Kandalt and his tmily. except Fe-ter Quran* and one of his daughters. These are all the names he recollected—there were a great many he knew not. M‘Girth’s wife* and Jones's wife and all their children except one of M‘Girth's children killed in the Fort, were taken with the reporter, prisoners to the Nation. He was taken by Russel's son Ho-orth-lew-an-Ie. and a daughter of Mrs. Cornell** directed him to make his escape to her father and tell what the Indians had done, and that they meant to come to Cowttau after the friendly Indians a* soon as their wounded were better. He further «ays, about One hundred lt;Indians went into the Fort ot Alabama, but i does not khow what they have done. They lt;were going to send a letter to their friends, the Spaniards* to let theffl know what they hare done. He understands the Indian tongue,”
