Broad dus has been made by Neill Judd, authority on Indian and cliff dywell er Jore, at the Smithsonian insti tute, Washington, D.C. as an an cient Indian doll and cradle. Photographs of the find were published in The Telegram Sun day, September 7. At first it was presumed the relics were an idol and case, but Mrs. Judd declares the objects are a child's toys. A letter from Mr. Judd to B. R. Howell says: “Your friend has found what may properly be as signed to the cliff dwellers, but as to this I cannot be quite sure even after close study of the excellent Photoerapha you have sent us. “It is often necessary, as in this case, to examine certain degrees of technique, the weaving elements utilized, etc. It is often necessary to know more of the actual asso ciations of such an object and the conditions under which it was found. The undecorated pottery vessel found with this toy might help to Trace it chronologically in our southwestern prehistory. “While I believe this particular ‘specimen is of cliff dweller origin, I am at the same time reminded that a few years ago one of the resi dents of Torrey discovered several buffalo hide shields of apparent plains Indian origin in a shelter near Torrey.” . The image, about eight inches long, was modeled of class and re sembled human form. It was swathed in a case made of basket work, antelope and deer hide, deco rated with fur.
