Secures the Exposition Building, and Will Have Large Gymnasium. The old Acme Athletic Club, which recently became defunct, has been thoroughly reorganized by the efforts of its old members and will henceforth be a prominent factor in all local ath letics and sports. In reorganizing the club, Billy Lavigne, brother of the fa mous pugilist of that name, has been the moving factor and it is due to his efforts that the club starts anew upon a plan which is certain of attracting all lovers of athletics and clean sport. The headquarters of the club, with reading rooms attached, will be at the corner of Twelffth and Broadway. The gym nasium headquarters will be at the cor ner of Twelfth and Webster, in the Ex position Building. A lease of twelve months has been secured from F. A. Smith, the Borax King, with an option of renewing the lease at the expiration of that time if it is desired. The old board of directors met last week for the purpose of allowing new ones to be elected to take their Place and formulate plans for the future. The following are the persons on whom the burden of directing the club's dest tinies for the following year has fall en: President, W. HH. Lb. Hynes; Vice-president, A. HH. Agnew; secre tary, H. L. Anderson; treasurer, L. W. Hardie; directors, J. J. Stetson, J. L. Donovan, B. Waighen, A. Bedbury, M. Weed, (. G.redericks and James Foard. William Lavigne has been chosen general manager and physical director. For a number of years he has been known for his ability as a trainer in both wrestling and boxing contests. In announcing the future prospects of the club, Lavigne says: “We will spend about $3,000 in fitting up the Exposition Building. When the club is in full running order there wll be a seating capacity of 5,000. In the center will be the gymnasium appa ratus and other paraphernalia which sees to make an up-to-date athletic club. About $1,000 will be expended in refitting the old apparatus which for merly belonged to the club. “Boxing matches will be one of the features of the club and already par tial arrangements have been completed to pull off a first-class match in Octo ber. I am in communication already with Charley Thurston of San Fran cisco and Mike Donovan of Rochester, N. C. In the event of not being able to Match these men, George Gibbs of Cleveland and Perry Queenan of Chi cago Will probably be brought here. “Bicycling, wrestling, boxing and all forms of sport will be fostered by the club. It is my intention to organize a class right away in order to center in terest, I have had a great deal of suc cess previously in developing good wrestlers and boxers and I am confi dent that California material is as good as any I have ever handled.
