Rescues stick withLifeguard of the YearBY FREDSWEGLESSTAFF WRITERFor a lifeguard, the most memorable rescues sometimes are ones the public* never sees.For 25-year-old Kyle White, San Clemente’s 2014 Lifeguard of the Year, his two most satisfying rescues came while off-duty.About three years ago, he was surfing at a secluded stretch of coast in South Laguna during a strong south swell. He noticed aboy, maybe 11 years old,struggling in a rip current.“I paddled about 50 yards over to him,” White said. “By the time 1 got to him, his face was underneath the water with every single stroke he took.
