ALplne 4-7494 Phoenix, ArizDublin Mayor To TalkAt Israel Bond Rally HereRobert Briscoe, former Jewish lord mayor of the Irish Catholic city of Dublin, Ireland, will speak at the B’nai B’rith Israel Bond Dinner at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Hotel Westward Ho.A veteran of Ireland’s battle for independence, Briscoe has been actively identified with Israel’s early struggle for independence, serving as head of a delegation in 1939 which sought international support for settlement of displaced and harrassed Jews in Palestine.BRISCOE, WHOSE life story was portrayed on “Playhouse 90“ on television, was a member of the Sinn Fein, Ireland’s Nationalist Party, that brought about that country’s independence in 1916. He entered Ireland’s politics in 1926 and since 1927 has been a member of Ireland’s Dail (parliament).He is a founder of the Fianna Fial movement and has consistently represented it at the parliament and in the Dublin Corporation, which is the city government, since1930.The father of seven children, Briscoe was recently elected president of the Ireland American Society and is currently working onpublication of his biography, to be entitled “Messenger of the People.”HE HAS ACTIVELY participated in the Israel bond campaign in Dublin since the bonds went onsale in Ireland.ma Barer, and pianist Evelyn Black.Mrs. Black majored in music atROBERT BRISCOEVassar College and Maine and Boston universities and is a frequent Phoenix performer.
