Withsupport from the ConfuciusInstitute Headquarters inBeijing, the USM ConfuciusInstitute has developed programs that will give students,University of Finance and Economics in Dalian, China toestablish the institute.The institute will offer a variety of programs at USM, within school districts throughout southern Maine and in the community. This fall, the institute has launched a Chinese language and culture program forK-12 educators. The two-year, cohort-based program provides an opportunity for teachers to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese and earn credits thatmay be applied toward K-12 World Language Teacher Certification or advanced graduate work.The university will host aninaugural ceremony on at 4p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in 10Bailey Hall on the USM Gorhamcampus to celebrate the newprogram.
