Yuma man now faces murder charge BY LOREN LISTIAK SUN STAFF WRITER A Yuma man accused of strik ing a 17-year-old boy with a base ball bat was charged with second-degree murder Tuesday after the victim died a lingering death in a Phoenix hospital. Jesus Eduardo Valenzuela had suffered a serious head wound when he was struck by a bat-wielding man who attacked a crowd of people gathered in front of a home in the 3200 block of Columbia Avenue following a party in the early morning hours of Sept. 15. Yuma County sheriff's depu ties, who investigated the attack, previously had not identified the victim, but his name was released Tuesday in court records. His alleged attacker, Ricardo Julian Ortiz Jr., 19, 1857 S. 17th Ave., was in jail over the week end in lieu of a bond of $144,000 after being arrested Friday by sheriff's deputies.
