John D. Parish, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice D. Parish, 360 Streamside drive, Harvey, re ceived an early promotion to Army pay grade private E-2 on completion of basic combat training at Ft. Dix, N. J. He was awarded the pro motion two months earlier than is customary because of his ac curacy in firing the M-14 rifle, high score on the physical com bat proficiency test and his mili tary bearing and leadership abilities. The early promotion program is an Army policy providing in centive for outstanding trainees. Parish entered the Army in June of this year. A 1960 graduate of Fenger high school, Chicago, he receiv ed his B.B.A. degree in 1966 from Loyola university in Chica go. Major Richard L. Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Scott, 1415 Olive Road, Homewood, is at tending the 10-month regular course at the Army Command and General Staff college, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. During the course, schedul ed to end June 9, 1967, he is among 704 U. S. and allied offi cers being prepared for duty as commanders and general staff officers in divisions or logistical commands. They receive in struction in the function of the general staff at corps and Army levels. Major Scott, who has been awarded the Bronze Star medal, Air medal and the Combat In fantryman’s badge, was last stationed in Viet Nam. His wife, Ann, is with him at Ft. Leavenworth. Army Pvt. Danny C. May, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. May, 14512 Green street, Har vey; Pvt. Joseph J. Jaskolski, Jr., 19, whose parents reside at 3626 Sunset Avenue, Markham, and Pvt. Dennis C. Hon, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carson L. Hon, 14446 Des Plaines, Harvey, com pleted advanced training as combat engineers at Fort Leon ard Wood, Mo. recently. During their training, they re ceived instruction in combat squad tactics, use of infantry weapons and engineer recon naissance. They also were trained in the techniques of road and and demolitions.
