s.rse,t-r-Art Exhibits and ConcertsAvailable to Area StudentsgolItillII-mn-leriy11ieeirisres-lyS,1-)ri-rsnirt-By Susan SydnorA wide variety of programs, exhibits and concerts will be available this year for Richmond high school students to attend and enjoy.In the field of Art from September 1-30 the Virginia Historical Society is presenting Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century maps.CRAFTSMAN EXHIBITFrom September 4-October 4 the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is presenting in the Theater Gallery the Resident Craftsman Exhibit, an exhibit of ceramics and textiles by the two gifted artisans who work and teach in the Museum’s Robinson House.Also from September 11-Oc.tober 18 in the Virginia Museum Loan Gallery is exhibited the Randolph-Macon Collection. This collection began in 1920 by the influence of Louise Jordan Smith, an art and French teacher at Randolph-Macon Women’s College.She encouraged an Art Association of the faculty, students and townspeople to acquire paintings for a permanent collection.Believing that “works of art exercise a civilizing influence,” the college has hung this distinguished collection where students live and study daily.Today the college buildings are filled with American paintings of the 18th,19th, and 20th centuries.BALLET PERFORMANCEOn Friday, September 25, at 8:15 P.M., the National Ballet will give a live performance at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Newest of America’s permanent dance troupes, the National Ballet was recently founded as a resident company forthe Nation’s capital and has scored an immediate success.Later in the year at the Virginia Museum, Dance Incorporated, Jose Limon and Company, and Mary Anthony Dance Theater are scheduled.To celebrate the 10th birthday season of the Virginia Museum Theater, a balance of musical theater, high comedy, engrossing drama, enduring classics and a recent Broadway hit are planned.FIRST PLAYThe first play Guys and Dolls by Frank Loesser will run from October 14 through November 21. Frank Loesser composed Where's Charley?, The Most Happy Fella, and How to Succeed in Business.The plays to be produced later on are Tartuffe by Moliere, December 9 through December 22; Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, January 20 through January 30; The Admirable Critchton by Sir James Barrie, March 10 through March 20; and No Time For Sergeants by Ira Levin, May 19 through May 29.The classic guitarist Rey de la Torre will return to the Virginia Museum as the opening event of the Chamber Music Society Series at 8:15 P.M., Friday, October 2. Last season his concert was sold out in advance.For the remaining events of the 1964-65 Chamber Music season, the Julliard String Quartet will return for a concert Friday, November 27. The Albeneri Trio will perform February 12, and the season will close with an unusual concert on April 9 by the Lenox Quartet with David Glazer.
