Staunton Contractor Gets Sweet Springs-Virginia Line Surfacing Job. Charleston, W. Va., Sept. 24 (4)— The state road commission today awarded contracts for six highway improvement projects and the con struction of five bridges. Awarding of contracts on five projects was de ferred an all bids on one were re jected. Contracts were awarded on the following road projects: Greenbrier county—Rainelle- Rupert road, three culverts and ap proaches, Clark and Lewis, Luray, Va., $16,020.79. Lincoln county—six miles Yankeh- Alum creek road, grading and drain ing, A. A. Bostic and company, Huntington, $126,521.50. Monongalia county—Three miles Grafton-Halleck-Morgantown road, gravel surface, Bartlett Construction company, Grafton, $11,541.50. Monroe county—3.9 miles Sweet Springs-Virginia state line road, shall surfacing, R. W. Moore and company, Staunton, Va., $11,340. Pocahontas county—Five miles Durbin-Randolph county line road, grading and paving with stone base and retread surface, F. C. Sammons and company, Huntington, $110,122.69, Taylor county—5.5 miles Grafton- Halleck-Morgantown road, grading and draining, Branham and Edwards, Clarksburg, $91,841.68. Bridge contracts awarded were: McDowell county—Upper Land graf bridge, Thompson and Adkins, Barboursville, $22,972.40. Ritchie county—Laurel Bridge, A. B. Peraldo and company, McFarlan, $20,928.50. Projects on which contracts were deferred were: Doddridge county—0.83 miles and 2.4 miles Northwestern turnpike, grading and wing, and 5.25 miles West Union-Troy road, grading and draining. Jackson county—12.5 miles Ripley- Spencer road, grading and draining. Hancock county—Four miles New Cumberland-Shester road, grading and draining. The project for which all bids were rejected, was in Berkeley and Jefferson counties and consisted of 15 miles of the Martinsburg-Charles Town road for stone widening and retread surface.
