Milan, Sept. 23—The committee on arrangements for the big Prohi bition meeting for Ripley county, which was held here last Saturday, wishes to report that it was a great success. The only disappointment was that W. H. Hickman, candidate for Governor, could not come. From State Chairman Lough’s morning address at the close of the 10:30 session, to the last song of the evening, the program was fine. The 2:30 p. m. address by Lough was logical, reasonable and convinc ing. This already popular man Made many new friends for himself and the cause of Prohibition. The Clarions were never in bet ter form. They simply delighted ev erybody. We were interrupted by rain in the evening and had to leave the band stand, which had been made and furnished with electric lights for this occasion. This, however, did not check the eagerness of the big crowd. A rush was made for Wright’s hall, where the Hon. W. A. Jackman, candidate for lieuten ant-governor, continued the most powerful, logical and statesmanlike political address made in Ripley county for many years. After a wide range of discussion on the im portant issues of this campaign, he fully emphasized the fact that the Prohibition party not only thorough ly believes in the conservation of all our natural resources, in even as low a scale in the animal and feath ered kingdom as the skunk, wood pecker and tom-tit, but the greatest need of the age is the conservation of national integrity—manhood, wo manhood, child life and the home. And with all consideration of the former and a disregard of the latter, our millions of capital and wealth would only add to our condemnation. His speech made a lasting impres sion for good. The Milan band won great hon ors. They never played better, and deserve the praise they won. The committee is under obliga tions to all who contributed to mak such a day possible. Our worthy town marshal, Comrade Fuller, did us a splendid favor in opening to us the streets for our outdoor meet ing. We speak the sentiment of all our citizens when we say it was worth while. Following are the names of candidates on our county ticket: Representative, Ulysses A. Foster; Clerk, Floyd W. Kissel; Treasurer, Arthur I. Austin; Re corder, Leo V. Dunn; Surveyor, Is aac N. Walker; Sheriff, David Wise; Commissioners 1st and 2nd District, Ezra Thackery and Bert Evans re spectively. Contributed.
