MEETS TRAGIC DEATHFormer LaGrnge County Resident Killed South of Middle-bury—Was Filling SiloLester Oesch, son of John Oesch, three miles west of Emma, met a tragic death last Saturday as the result ~of an accident at his home on the C. C. Ulery farm, two and a half miles south of Middlebury, formerly the Philip Griner farm. Mr. Oesch was filling his silo and was using a garden hose to turn water into the silage cutter, when his clothes caught on a shaft and he was whirled violently around, so that his leg was broken in several places and the lower part of it crushed. He was hurried to the Goshen hospital, where the leg was amputated above the knee, but he was doubtless injured otherwise and he died at midnight. He was well known in the neighborhood where he formerly resided, west of Emma.Mj\ Oesch is survived by bis wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Oesch; six brothers: Levi, Daniel, William, Freeman, Jo^ra and Chauncey; four sisters: Mrs. Perry Yoder, Mrs. Frank Blough, Erma and Artie Oesch, all in the vi.cinity of Emma, except Mrs. Blough who with her husband, has been living on the Ulery farih with Mr. Oesch.The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon at 10 o’clock in the church at Emma, Rev. J. H. Fike of Middlebury and Rev. Hostetler of Emma officiating. Interment took place in the Mil* ler cemetery.Death of Former ResidentMrs. Frank P. Smith of Marshall, Michigan, died last Friday in a hospital at Battle Creek, aged almost 67 years. Mrs. Smith was born in Columbiana county*, Ohio, and at the age of 2 years came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P Parks, to Eden township ’where she grew up on a farm two and a half miles west of Topeka. Twelve years ago she and her husband removed to a farm near Marshall, where she resided until her ,d««th»She is survived by her husband and two daughter*: lira. Lena Noweis of Rome City and Mrs. Glaude Wilson of Jackson, Mich.; three graod children; one sister, Mrs. li. E. Craig of Topeka, and her mother, Mrs. Lydia A. Parks, who is 90 yehrs old, also of Topeka. Her father, William T. Parks, who was a prominent farmer of Eden townBhip, died in 1905. The remains were brought here arriving at 4:54 o’clock Saturday afternoon and the funeral was held at the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. T. A. Estell conducting the service. Interment took place in Greenwood cemetery.
