An Oak tree in Monteray square, in j I front of Mr. John Lyons’ residence, ! was struck by lightning yesterday af- j ternoon. The crash of thunder fob . lowing the flash was deafening. Th« j tree had a portion of the bark fron , the ground up to a height of three o\ four feet stripped from one side, but | does not appear to be otherwise dam•edtAn iron spike in the side of the tree i where the bolt struck was driven deef into the wood. Numbers of peoph were passing on Bull Btreet when the tree was struck, and several were , slightly stunned.—Savannah News.The Father of Independence
