t(ACIRCUIT COURT.The fall term of the Hendricks Circuit Court commenced Iasi Monday, and though attended by the usual number of persons, it has thus far been a point of secondary interest—the bulk of public attention having been absorbed by the Fair. But little progress I has been made in the business, in consequence of the unusual time required by the few cases tried. \The new Judge—so far as we have heard nn expression—has given general satisfaction. He presides with dignity—is prompt }n his decisions, and firm in his aderence to what he deems the right. We have no doubt but that all in attendance this week, who are permitted to decide for themselves, are convinced that no advantage could be derived from another change in the Judgship at prerent. We could not attend to note the proceedings, and cannot, therefore, furnish a full report of the business of the week. Some five or six cases only, have been tried. James Lockridge, charged with larceny, was cleared. Moses Keeney, tried on two charges, burglary and an assault with intent to commit a rape, was cleared on the first, and convicted on the last, and sentenced to the Penitentiary for two years. A motion for a new trial will be argued on Monday. Two applications for divorce, by the wives, were granted—Stout vs. Stout, (up at one or two previous terms;) and Dugan vs. Dugan, (she should have had one years ago.) The youth, Peterson, in jail sometime ago, on a charge of stealing a pair of pants and some other articles, was fined five cents and sentenced to incarceration in the county jail for a period of thirty minutes—which rigorous penalty he suffered with the most exemplary fortitude, and then went his way.The State vs. Clifton, of Eel River township—perjury—was tried yesterday afternoon, and the jury pronounced him not guilty. The Grand Jury was in session a day and a half, and found am bill. The Court adjourned this morning, and will meet again on Monday. There is business enough to occupy the whole of next week.
