Long, former Whitehall resident, who has become a Civil War authority.Long is a graduate of t h e Whitehall high school, member of the Wisconsin Civil War round Table, and president of the Chicago Civil War Round Table. lie is now’ a resident of Oak Park, 111.LONG IS t h e author o f many historical books, combining his interest, in journalism and history. He has been a m e m b e r of Associated Press, on the staff ot the Chicago Tribune, managing editor of the Morris, III. Herald, associated editor of the American Peoples Encyclopedia and is research director of the Centennial History of the Civil War.Long is one of three Civil War experts who will address the conference which is featuring the civil War theme as' it affected Wisconsin. John Patrick Hunter, Madison, and Donald Gerlinger, Milwaukee, will also be on the program as will August Derleth, who is now engaged in writing a civil war novel.Mrs. Eva John Kuhn. Whitehall, president of the Wisconsin Regional WTriter Association, was instrumental in securing Long for the conference. He is a grandson of the late Mrs. Hattie Reach o f Whitehall.
