The Alaska section of the Al aska Highway will soon join the interstate highway system, ac cording to the Alaska Road Com mission. A. F. Ghiglione, head of the Commission, has received a re quest from the minister of De partment of Highways, British Columbia, that Alaska designate its section of the highway Route 97. Route 97 begins at Weed, Calif., runs up through eastern Oregon and Washington, then through British Columbia to the Alaska border. Ghiglione said the request will be honored. “This will be the first Alas kan highway to become an in tegrated part of the western highway system,” Ghiglione said. “It will also put the Alas ka section of the highway into the interstate highway system.” He said joining the interstate highway system could help Al aska in its efforts to share in the $101 billion highway program proposed by President Hisen hower. At present Alaska is not included in the program.
