First Player In History to Land Both Crowns in the Same Season. Philadelphia, Sept. 12.—Two men came out of the West, champions, and both from Chicago, to struggle for the ribbon of the links In the foul grapple at the Marlon Cricket club on Satur day, and when the decisive putt had been said go close to the cup on the fifteenth green as to leave no doubt as to the outcome, one of Theme two men, Charles Evans, Jr, had emerged champion of them all, “Chick” de throned Robert Garnner, last year's winner, 4 and 3, over the Shore route. Now Evans were the double crown, amateur and open. Never before, either In this country or Great Britain, has the same man won both the ama teur and open title in the same season. Some few have uifted both crowns, but never is the same year. Evans won the national open title at Minne apolis in June.
