Fred Matz secured a large outfit from the Seward Commercial com pany for his Winter’s work on Mills creek where he has been operating for years. Roberts and Nutter are starting up their sawmill at Mile Twenty three and a half. J.C. Murray went out the line this morning to look the country over. William G. Weaver and Isaac Evans yesterday sold lot 36 in block 14 to J. T. Harvey. This property is on Second Avenue near the old school house and is the one on which the bungalow started yesterday by Mr. Harvey will be built. A. R. McConnaghy, better known in these parts as “Long Shorty,” ar rived from Valdez yesterday on the Mariposa and left for his home in Tyonek on the same boat. He was in Valdez as a witness in the recent fisheries cases. Mr. McConnaghy is an old timer in Alaska, having ar rived on the Cook Inlet in the early sar Ed. E. Edelman, who has been over at Valdez as a witness in the fish cases, arrived on the Mariposa yester day and left for his home in Kenait this morning on the Evans. Mr. Edelman is a member of the Levant Igloo of Pioneers of Alaska. James C. Lyons, an extensive farmer of Walls Walla, Wash., was a passenger for Anchorage on the Mariposa yesterday where he will pay a visit to his two sisters, Mrs. L. F. Shaw and Miss Lyons. Herbert Tozier and T. M. Ward Went out to Mile $7 this morning on the car to where the pile driver crew are at work on the new trestling. Burns, Russell and Meas, who re cently returned from Kodiak Island on a prose porting trip, left for the Moose Pass cantry this morning to prospect. G. G. Fetterly returned to his home in Sunrise on the car this morning. Mr. Fetterly came over from Vultiez yesterday on the Mariposa where he has been in the interests of the fish ermen. Fred Mats returned to his property on Mills creek this morning with a big supply of materials. Mr. Matz reports everything out there as being fine W. F. Weimer returned to his place of business on Kenai lake this morn ing. Mr. Weimer says that the saw mill has been completely set up and the water turned on for power. The mill will be working in a very short W. C. Rides, chairman of the En gineering Commission and B.A. Barndollar, auditor of the Commis sion, left on the Maripoos for An chorage on a business trip W. P. Henry, who has been over to Valdez on a business trip, re turned yesterday on the Wariposa. He says things over there sure look lively while the court is in Session. C. E. Bade left on the Mariposa yesterday on a business trip to An chorage in connection with his lum ber yard, which is one of the largest over there Adelman Quilty delivered their first bottles of milk yesterday morn ing from their dairy at Mile Three and a half. They have five cows now and will get three more on the Al liance tomorrow. Mrs. Dr. Sawyer will return to her home in Los Angeles on the Mari posa tomorrow, after enjoying a very pleasant visit with her relatives here and with the Seward ladies. She leaves the city much improved — in health. Max Herman, of the Alaska Cigar Factory left for Anchorage on the Mariposa on a business trip and will return on one of the next boats. Mrs. C. E. Bade and Miss Bade will leave for their home in Portland on the Mariposa. They enjoyed the summer here so much that they in tend to return here early next spring. Mr. Bade will join them in Portland in a few weeks. Leon Urbach this afternoon made application with the deputy clerk of the court for a flat rate license for the sale of tobacco.
