: PASSES AWAYChristian Science Practitioner Dies of Heart Trouble This Morning.DEATH CAME SUDDENLYCame North in 1898 and Started First Work in Dawson City.Robert W\ Tompkins, Christian Science practitioner and founder of. tiie Fairbanks church of that faith, died suddenly between 4 and 5 o’clock this morning from paralysis of the heart. His death occurred at the residence of F« E. Barbour, where the deceased had been stopping while his own cabin at Seventh and Barnette was being remodeled.Mr. Tompkins had been practicing as a Christian Science healer in Fairbanks for the last three years, and with bis associates had built a church and gained many converts to the faith. A new church was erected recently near his cabin on Seventh avenue and the various meetings held there have always been well attended. Mr. Tompkins has been the second reader at these meetings, Mrs. W, H. Parsons being the first reader.The deceased was an old-timer in the North, having come to the Klondike in the early rush of 1898. He resided in Dawson for several years and while there took up the study of Christian Science. He built up Quite a practice at that place, and had a number of followers. When the Fairbanks camp was discovered Mr. Tomp-kinB moved here, where he has resided ever since.Before coming to the North Mr. Tompkins had lived in Detroit, Mich., where several brothers and sisters areinow. He came from a family which Is well known at that place, being among the oldest residents of DetroitThe funeral services will be under the auspices of the Masonic-order, of which the deceased was an active member, and the remains will be in- \ terred In the local cemetery.
