Blit is something else, those who are an “early fall” And some recent which have movedfall weather There are predicting wentherwise cold frontsthrough our section could be indicators upon which such a prediction might be based.Regardless of the predictions, fronts and what not, fall is a favorite season for outdoor enthusiasts. During the next six weeks or so everyone should plan a vacation, a long weekend or a trip to enjoy the O/arks.Whether your favorite sport is camping, hiking, boating, hunting, fishing, photography, bird watching or just lazing around outdoors, now is the time. In many instances, resort areas, lakes, national forests, streams and rivers have lost their crowds of summer vacationers. For the true lovers of the outdoors, the resulting quietness and lack of mohs add a delight to fall outings.Of all the fall activities, perhaps the one which stirs the more intense interest is hunting. Locally, bow hunting season for deer opens Oct. I. Squirrel, rabbit, dove and other small game seasons are open. Much of the fun in any hunting trip is the planning which precedes it.Bow hunters are scouting for stands. They’re doing a bit of target practice, and they’re locating areas to hunt. Many shotguns and rifles are being checked, sighted in and, perhapsballots at the high school during the class election were counted! by the guidance department and they were actually counted under the supervision of Ann Hamilton, who is in charge of student activities at the school.Thought for the Day: “If you have virtues, let them speak for themselves; but refuse to talk about the vices of other people.”receiving their first good cleaning since Iasi winter. And it’s not too early to begin conditioning hunting dogs for the quail season in November.Several local hunters are also planning trips to western states for the opening of big game seasons around mid October. The weather may he more severe in the higher altitudes, but that’s a part of big game hunting.Dave and Cecil Hammer, of Hammer Brothers Sign Co., are marking off the days until they leave for Colorado for their annual elk hunt. Along with Jim Webber. also of Neosho, they plan to go this year to northwestern Colorado, for the Oct. 12 opening.Dave told me that he and Cecil have missed hunting in the Rockies but few years since HHfj. Due to increasing hunting pressures, they’ve had to change their hunting areas from time to lime. But that, too, is part of big game bunting, especially in slates where such hunting has been over-promoted or commercialized.But fall is a great time to be outdoors no matter what your favorite sport may be.
