FILM’ COMPANY SAID TO BE PURCHASERS OF OLD WORK Historic old Fort Montgomery, on the Canadian Border at Rouses Point end which has not been used by the ‘government for many years, was sold at public auction by the War’ Depart ment ‘Thursday morning. Appraised at only $15,000 ‘the ‘sale brought a total of $45,481 for the five parcels ’ in which the land is classified a figure which caused genuine sur prise. There were many bids offered at the sale, which was held on the Reser vation and which was under’ the aus pices of Major W.B. Wheeler of the Quartermaster-General’s Office at Washington, D.C. The sale was ‘in the Hands-of-a-New York auctioneer. The first tract of sixteen acres, used by the, Delaware and Hudson railroad ‘as’ a right of way, and the second of nine and a half acres, used as a right of way by the Canadian Pacific Railway, were purchased by Johnn R. Myers, of Rouses Point, in the interest of both railroads. These tracts were purchased for $1654 and $8217, respectively. The other three tracts, comprising 555 acres of high land and 73 acres of swamp land, were purchased by Max Dickstein a real estate and insurance broker of 280 Broadway, New York City, for $43, 000. The first of the three tracts bought by ‘Dickstein comprises ‘the land west of the highway,‘or an extension of Canada street, Rouses Point, and covers one ‘hundred acres. The next tract comprises the entire eservation, exclusive of the Fort, it self, consisting of 453 acres of high land, and seven and a half acres of submerged land. The fifth tract, the Fort itself, cov ers three and a half acres. Just what purpose Dickstein plans to use the land for could not be ascer tained, but it is understood from au thoritive sources that the land was purchased for a film company.
