Death of Augustus Poppy.Last Sunday evening tin? citizens of Albion were startled to learn that Augustus Poppy, one of the well-known and prosperous farmers lt;4'Elkhart township, residing about three and one-half miles northwest of this city, had suddenly died of heart disease at 3:30 o'clock that afternoon, as it was not known generally that he I was sick. He had been am no' for J several days, but was able to be up! and around the house and on Sunday had eaten his dinner when In- was ta ken seriously ill soon afterwards and breathed his last at the hour above stated.He was born in Hanover, Germany, December 18ita, and came to this country with his parents in 1833 locating in Maryland. After residing there a few years they removed to Kichlatni county, Ohio, thence to Noble oonnty, Indiana, settling about three and one-half miles northwest of Albion, where he resided until his death, September 18, 1808, at the age of seventy-two years, eight months and twenty-four days.He was united in marriage to Mary’ Jane Kendel, February 7, 1850. To this union two children were born— one son, George W., and one daughter, Mrs. Nathan Hathaway, who with his beloved companion, survive him and mourn his departure. He was reared in the faith of the German Lutheran church and in this faith he lived and died.The funeral services were conducted from the family residence ou Tuesday, September 20, at 10:30 o’clock, a. m., by Elder J. O. Piose, pastor of the Church of Christ at Ken-dallville, in the presence of a very large audience of relatives and friends and the body was laid to rest in the Albion cemetery.Mr. Poppy was a genial, jovial and open-hearted man and bis presence will be missed, not only in the immediate neighborhood where he resided, but among his large number of acquaintances as well. We extend condolence to the relatives and friends in their bereavement. *
